COACHING

In addition to the expertise you have gained throughout your career and are developing on the job, coaching makes you conscious of the tacit knowledge quintessential in leadership roles and helps you to develop the same in your context and wield it to your profound satisfaction. Steffen supports current and future leaders of any kind of institution, helping them to solve problems they identify, e.g. preparing for a new challenge, transitioning from an executive role into the next stage of life, eliminating perceived obstacles in their lives, restoring an inner balance, improving personal relationships, developing new goals.

Trained as a systemic-integrative coach, Steffen's coaching philosophy aims to embody "loving detachment...staying both committed and non-possessive, compassionate and non-controlling.” In doing so he...

  • acts like a road sign on your way, showing you different directions that can be taken

  • helps you to become aware of the consequences of decisions and actions at forks in the road

  • creates space for you to hear not only the obvious and immediate voices in your head, but also the reluctant and tacit ones on the way to decision making

  • helps you change perspective to achieve a clearer view on reality, to find and keep your balance in life, and to clearly see your purpose

During coaching Steffen does not propose solutions, but acts as a guide in finding the causes of identified issues and in developing and evaluating attitudes and behaviors to improve professional and/or personal life.

MEDITATION AND LEADERSHIP

Why meditate as a leader?

Executives face major challenges especially given the high speed of technological and societal change, complex global situations, as well as the expectation of instantaneous responses. Meditation as a personal discipline and tool to access solitude and silence helps everyone to keep a personal balance, know oneself and be in touch with one’s intrinsic goodness. Leaders specifically profit from gaining a clearer view on reality, thereby improving relationships and decision making. They train resilience, perseverance and humility by keeping up the discipline of meditation.

Being more centered also leads to a more purpose-driven life and more meaningful interactions. Overall, to ‘good work’ as defined by Laurence Freeman as ‘work that brings out the best in the people who do it and brings enduring benefits to those who are influenced by it.’

Example of leaders who meditate: Lee Kuan Yew, Ray Dalio, Ng Kok Song, and Herman van Rompuy

Why meditation & leadership?

"I have found that through the process of meditation, I can gain clarity about complex issues. It triggers creative thought. But most importantly, it helps me develop compassion for myself and others...Meditation has been crucial for me to build the resilience to cope with the stresses in my life.”

- William George, Senior Fellow at Harvard Business School

Mediation & Leadership Services

In the context of speaking engagements, workshops and executive education programs, Steffen shares his experiences with leadership and meditation. Having been introduced to meditation in 1988, meditation has accompanied him through the various stages of his professional career and his private life. Specifically, Steffen practices and teaches Mantra-Meditation, a form of meditation common in all wisdom traditions, characterized by stillness, silence and simplicity.

Speaking Engagements
Steffen Naumann has been engaged as speaker on topics like “Meditation and Leadership” or “Christian Meditation” by secular, interfaith as well as Christian audiences in business, academic, and religious settings.

Workshops
Workshops are centered around giving a clear insight on the impact of meditation in an institutional leadership context and practicing mantra meditation together. Mantra meditation can be practiced independent of any religious affiliation and is therefore suitable in institutional environments while offering participants with religious affiliation the opportunity to deepen the practice in their personal context. Workshops can be designed for beginners in meditation, experienced meditators or mixed audiences. They include the practice of meditation, talks about the impact of meditation and group/individual work.

Publications

Steffen Naumann has published "Christliche Meditation nach JohnMain - Kontemplatives Gebet" as contribution to Thomas Möllenbeck / Ludger Schulte: Kontemplation. Eröffnung des Unverfügbaren, Aschendorff Verlag, Münster 2024. After introducing John Main and the World Community of Christian Meditation, the essay reflects on the nature of Christian Meditation as non-discursive prayer, as a way of faith into the present and the presence, away from egotistical concerns to reality and harmony, to pure being and union with God. It discusses its impact in today's society, looking at interfaith and interconfessional dialogue, community and individuals. Should you wish a copy of just the essay, kindly send an email via the contact form.

Leadership Program: JLS - Führen aus der Stille

„JLS – Führen aus der Stille” aims to offer programs for current and future leaders that support personal development through integrating a spiritual discipline into daily life. Its Introductory Program provides a condensed practical, psychological and spiritual introduction to meditation and its impact on leadership. Offers are in development to deepen various aspects of the meditation and leadership journey. The open enrolment offers through Campus für Theologie und Spiritualität in Berlin are based on the Christian tradition. As the meditation technique is also known in the other wisdom and faith traditions, the offer can be designed in a religiously open way to fit to multi religious corporate environments.
